Touch Care was created from lived experience.
Our Director's journey has not been straightforward. His life has included addiction, a serious injury that resulted in paralysis, and the difficult process of rehabilitation and learning to walk again.
Those experiences changed his understanding of independence.
Things that were once automatic became difficult or impossible. Recovery required persistence, support from other people and learning how to do things differently.
It also provided a very personal understanding of how vulnerable it can feel to rely on others.
Recovery was not simply about learning to walk again. It was about rebuilding independence, confidence and a sense of direction.
That journey ultimately influenced the kind of support our Director wanted to provide to other people.
Touch Care was created from the belief that people should be supported without being defined by the challenges they have experienced.
A person's circumstances may change. Their abilities may change. Their path may look different from the one they expected. None of that removes their right to make choices, take reasonable risks, pursue goals and have a life that belongs to them.
Lived experience does not mean assuming we understand someone else's journey.
Every person's experience is different.
Instead, it has shaped the values behind Touch Care: patience when things take time, respect for individual choice, an appreciation of how important independence can be and an understanding that progress does not always happen in a straight line.
We believe in supporting the person in front of us, recognising their strengths and working alongside them towards whatever a good life means to them.
That is why Touch Care exists.
